Virtual Reality Training Platform built for Industry
Ready-made courses, or VR training built around your own processes, on one virtual reality training platform.
How Avatar Academy works

1
Choose or build your training
Ready-made courses, or your own equipment and procedures built in VR.

2
Train hands-on in the headset
Operators practise with their own hands, without stopping production.

3
Track every session
Every attempt is logged, so you see who needs more practice.
Ready-made, or built for you
Ready-made courses
Start training straight away with courses already built for industry.
Built for your process
Your equipment, your environment and your SOPs, built in VR with your subject matter experts.
Boston Scientific uses Avatar Academy for line clearance training. Freudenberg Medical uses it for its EP catheter programme. Both were built for them.

Example training data on Avatar Academy web portal
Every session, on record
The Avatar Academy web portal shows you how every operator is progressing, without anyone keeping a spreadsheet.
- Who has trained, and on what. Progress, sessions and time in training for every operator.
- How each attempt went. Scores, timing, hesitation and missed targets, session by session.
- Exams that require 100% to pass. Randomised questions every attempt.
- Records to support your own sign-off. Evidence of practice before an operator is signed off on the real equipment.
- Add users and assign courses in bulk. One operator or a whole shift, in one step.
Proven in regulated manufacturing
Freudenberg Medical
75% less training lead time 50% lower scrap rate
Source: Freudenberg Medical, EP catheter case study. Mersus built the VR training in that programme.
“We thought the payback would be one year. We brought it down to a couple of months. That is how successful it was.”Lars Gerding, VP of Technology, Freudenberg Medical
Boston Scientific
16,000 line clearance training sessions completed
Line clearance training built by Mersus for Boston Scientific. Sessions recorded in Avatar Academy’s own analytics.
“Using Avatar Academy, in the space of a day you can run six or seven times the same training process that previously would take four or five weeks.”Thomas Quilty, Process Engineering, Boston Scientific
Plastics: First Polymer Training and Denroy
Our first injection moulding course was built with First Polymer Training, and its content is shaped with moulders such as Denroy.
“It takes out the fear of walking onto a shop floor, especially if you aren’t used to working with the machinery.”Catherine Dynes, Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Denroy
As featured in British Plastics & Rubber, September 2026.
What it takes to get started
Start with a Discovery Workshop
Best if you’re building the case internally.
- Half a day, on site or online
- A business case for your board
- A rollout roadmap in low-risk phases
Try it on a headset
Best if your team wants to try it hands-on first.
- Set up a Meta Quest and connect it to Wi‑Fi.
- Download Avatar Academy from the Meta Store.
- We set up your trial account and the courses that suit you.
- Log in and start with the tutorial, then the training modules.
Built for your industry
Manufacturing
Get new starters productive sooner and build skills on your own processes, without taking a line out of production.
Biopharma
Let teams practise critical procedures as often as they need, with no risk to product, people or equipment.
Medical devices
Prepare operators for regulated processes before they reach the line, with records for your own sign-off.
Common questions
Avatar Academy is compatible with the Meta Quest line. The headsets are standalone and wireless, so there is no PC or cabling to install.
No. We can supply the headsets, or you can use your own.
Very little. Headsets connect over Wi‑Fi and the app is downloaded from the Meta Store. We set up your account and courses.
Ready-made courses can be live in hours, with support included. Bespoke training, built around your own procedures, typically takes 6 to 16 weeks.
One annual site licence covers unlimited operators on that site, so every shift can train without counting seats.
Yes. We build simulations of your equipment and SOPs with your subject matter experts, as we did for Boston Scientific’s line clearance training.
Usually it is a small update on our side, and the change reaches every headset without anyone reinstalling anything.
Our experiences are built specifically to keep motion sickness to a minimum. They run at a steady 72 frames per second, and operators interact with their own hands.
No. Avatar Academy gives you a record of every practice session and exam as evidence before your own sign-off on the real equipment. Your sign-off process stays yours.
