Avatar Academy is the immersive VR training platform built by Mersus Technologies for industrial and life sciences organisations. It allows operators to train on true-to-life simulations of equipment and procedures, building genuine competence through hands-on, repeatable practice in a zero-risk environment.
Avatar Academy is generally licensed on a site licence basis, but pricing varies depending on the needs of your organisation — number of locations, choice of off-the-shelf versus bespoke content, and scale of deployment all factor in. Get in touch and we’ll talk through a model that fits your organisation.
If you are licensing one of our off-the-shelf courses, you can be up and running within days. Bespoke simulations built around your own procedures take longer — typically 8 to 16 weeks depending on complexity — as they involve a detailed knowledge-capture process with your team before development begins.
That’s entirely up to you. We can supply headsets as part of your deployment, or your organisation can procure them independently. Either way, our team will guide you through setup and configuration.
Avatar Academy is built for Meta Quest. It is a standalone, wireless headset that requires no PC or specialist server infrastructure, making deployment straightforward regardless of your existing IT environment.
How It Works
No. Because Avatar Academy runs on standalone Meta Quest headsets, there is no PC, server, or specialist infrastructure required for day-to-day operation. Our team handles setup and configuration as part of deployment.
Both options are available, and many clients use a mix of the two. Our course library includes ready-to-deploy simulations such as robotic arm operation, injection moulding, and fire safety training. For procedures specific to your operation, we build bespoke simulations in close collaboration with your subject matter experts.
Avatar Academy uses hand tracking via Meta Quest, allowing trainees to interact with virtual equipment using natural hand movements rather than controllers. This removes the abstraction layer between the trainee and the procedure, meaning skills built in VR transfer more directly to real-world operation.
There is no hard limit on concurrent users. Our deployment with Boston Scientific reached over 16,000 training sessions within ten months.
Compliance & Data
Yes. Avatar Academy stores data on EU-based servers and is fully GDPR compliant.
Yes. Every training session is automatically tracked and logged, with completion records, assessment scores, and certification data accessible through the platform and exportable for use in regulatory audits or quality system documentation.
Training data can be exported and integrated with most learning management and quality management systems. Integration is handled on a case-by-case basis with custom development, depending on your existing systems — our team will work with you to establish the right approach.
Yes. Avatar Academy has been deployed in GMP-regulated medical device and biopharma manufacturing environments, including with Boston Scientific and Freudenberg Medical.
Support & Ongoing Use
Yes. Ongoing support is included as standard with every Avatar Academy deployment. Our team remains available to assist with setup, content management, and any technical issues that arise.
Managers access real-time performance data through Avatar Academy’s web portal, including completion rates, assessment scores, and individual trainee progress. Reports are exportable for use outside the platform.
Yes. Avatar Academy is built for multi-site deployment. Training content, user management, and reporting are all centralised, so an operator in one location trains to the same standard as one anywhere else, and managers retain full visibility across every site.

Bespoke Development
A typical bespoke simulation takes 8 to 16 weeks from specification to delivery, depending on the complexity of the procedure being simulated. The process begins with a knowledge-capture workshop with your subject matter experts.
Our process follows three stages: specification, where we translate your procedure into a narrative and design document; development, broken into work packages with client review at each stage; and delivery, including testing and deployment support.
